When we first picked out our groups, I was a little unsure of how it would go. I was expecting for someone to take charge and assign roles but I think our group did a good job with teamwork. We didn’t have any specific leader and took on the tasks together. When someone didn’t agree with something like for some of the group activities in discussion, we would explain our opinion and tried to find a common ground.
While volunteering at the Women’s Center, I used a lot of my organization skills. Mainly for our volunteering, we were to organize the clothing bank room. When we first got there, there were many bags of items all by the entrance and a lot of the clothes were disorganized and not placed in their designated spots. We created a system where each of use one be in charge of separate things. I was in charge of going through some of the bags and separating them and also reorganizing the racks. There were a lot of clothes that were just placed on top of the racks and I made sure to hang them up and put them in the appropriate spots. I also separated the racks by clothing. I put the heavy jackets in the back rack. I put all of the women’s clothing on the right side from casual to formal. I also put all the mens and baby clothing on the left side again, from casual to formal clothing.
The image that I had chosen for commitment was a picture of a women underwater holding her breath. I believe that this photo expresses commitment because the women is sacrificing something, in this case, breathing, in order to achieve a goal. This goal can be possibly trying to beat a record time holding her breath underwater. This concept relates to my group because while volunteering, we made the sacrifice of adjusting our schedules in order to volunteer at the women’s center. We also showed our commitment when choosing a volunteer opportunity. At first it was hard because online it listed that a lot of them were filled up, but we ended up going to the Center for community-based learning, leadership, and research office. They then guided us to the United Way of Greater Way of Milwaukee and Waukesha County. This was where we had found the clothing bank at the Women’s Center in West Allis. We immediately took action to email the person in charge.
For trust, I chose the image of a young girl holding a little boy. I think this shows trust because she is being careful when carrying him. The little boy looks comfortable and “trusts” her to hold him. Our group put a lot of trust in each other to make sure we were equally doing our work for volunteering. All of us were hard at work and there wasn’t anyone that was slacking off.
For accountability, I chose the image of roads with arrows pointing toward one direction. I think this shows accountability because it pointing the woman toward the right direction. This relates to our group because we each held accountability and were in the right direction of fulfilling all our our assigned tasks.
For conflict, I chose the image with all the different legs, shoes, and pants. I think this expresses conflict because we are all different and have different opinions that lead to conflict. For my group, we were all different with distinct personalities but managed to work together throughout our whole group project. We also offered help to one another out of kindness.
For results, I chose the boy having an arm wrestle with someone. The boy is working hard in order to beat his opponent. It can be seen on his face how he is trying his best to win the arm wrestle. I think that it is important for you to work hard in order to be successful and have good results. Our group at first had a hard time finding a volunteer opportunity, but we all worked hard to find one that worked for each of our schedules.
Even though we only had volunteered for 2 hours at the clothing bank, I think we really made a big difference. By organizing the clothing bank, it helps the women that are borrowing the clothes to have an easier way of finding the clothing they are looking for. This also helps relieve some workfor the people in charge of the women’s center. I am really glad that we had the opportunity to help out the women’s center and make things a little easier for not only the staff who are working really hard but also the women and children that are using their resources! There are so many women that aren’t as fortunate as us and need a little help in life. I am glad that even though we had only made a small difference, we have made a positive impact on them to make things a little bit easier.
