Julia Dela Cruz:
My name is Julia and I am a Junior majoring in Marketing. I believe that I have all of the cognitive abilities which are verbal, quantitative, reasoning, spatial, and perceptual. I have developed these abilities mostly from my work experience and also being a student. Although I have these abilities, I think that there is still room for me to master them based on the experiences and situations I will go through in the future mainly with my career.
When I was younger, I used to be in girl scouts and would do a lot of volunteering. One of the things we had done was creating christmas cards for the nursing homes. I also did a lot of volunteering in high school at the animal house shelter. I would help out by walking the dogs and playing with some of the animals. I really enjoy volunteering and thought that it was cool that we would get to help out at the Women’s Center. I helped out by organizing the clothes for the clothing bank. We used our communication skills to split up the work in order to be as productive as possible. This was crucial because we were only volunteering for two hours and wanted to get as much work done as we could.
Alejandra Jauregui:
My name is Alejandra Jauregui and I am a third-year student majoring in Marketing. For our project to volunteer and make a website, a lot of communication had to be done. My team members and I communicated effectively and efficiently through text and or in-person meetings during class. We chose to volunteer by organizing the clothing bank at the Milwaukee Women’s Center. I was able to display good communication skills and responsibility during the volunteer event. Responsible in the manner that I was able to pull through with setting up a time slot for volunteering. Usually, I am a person that likes to work on my own, but being in a team setting, I quickly had to adjust to the changing waters. In my usual setting, I would stay to myself and be more conserved, but as a part of a team, I felt myself open up and allow myself to open up to the rest of my team. During our community service, we would communicate very frequently as to who was organizing which section of the room and what we had completed so far. The skills I brought to the table were flexibility, communication, and responsibility.
Benjamin Mcdowell:
My name is Benjamin McDowell and I am a junior majoring in marketing. As a team we all brought a unique set of skills and abilities, which not only helped within the project but within the semester throughout. That being said I think my different outlook definitely helped my team overall in the different stages of this project. Another helpful quality would be my ability to get the ball rolling. When we first arrived at the Milwaukee Women’s Center and saw the room we were overwhelmed. The state of the room itself and the lack of information on what we were to exactly tackle left us lost on what to specifically tackle and even where to start. After a minute of surveying the room I dove into organizing shoes and then tackled the garbage bags filled with random clothes, blankets, and things alike. Not only did this help get the ball rolling for me but as I separated clothes and blankets while organizing them by type it gave my teammates the opportunity to find a location for the items I had separated if they didn’t know what to do next.
Another contribution of mine would be my diligent and consistent work whilst volunteering. We all worked without stopping throughout the whole process. At one point we were so into it that we ended up organizing our own jackets within the donated clothing without even noticing.
Outside of the volunteering itself, I believe I did a good job on figuring out a time frame for the various tasks at hand as well as figuring out how to divide up the work. On top of that I also believe I did a good job with listening to what my team members had to say and considered their ideas as they did mine. All in all it made for a very smooth decision making process. The last skill I that I believe led to our team’s success is my high level of communication. My teammates and I communicated often and clearly. I addressed any issues I saw in a timely manner and as a result we were able to overcome many obstacles.
Introduction
Our group decided to help out our community by volunteering to help with the clothing bank located at the Milwaukee Women’s Center in West Allis, Wisconsin. Each of us has a significant part in helping with the clothing bank. We decided to each cover seperate parts of the clothing room. Julia was in charge of going through the clothes and making sure everything was put in the right place. Alex was in charge of rearranging the clothes for them to be organized according to the labels. Ben was in charge of going through the donated clothes and putting them back in their specific place. We all contributed the abilities of verbal, spatial, and reasoning while volunteering for the clothing bank.
